CORINTHIAN CUP

An entertaining match in the remaining tie of round two saw Division One’s Korona Redbridge take Premier Division Ainslie Wood all the way to penalties on Sunday. Daniel Bendek, Daniel Siwek and Dawid Smolarek all found the back of the net for Korona but an Eric Kelly brace and a goal from Jonathan Carter levelled things up for Wood. And it was Ainslie Wood who came away shootout winners for the second time this season, winning 5-4, to confirm a place in the quarter finals against Warren United.

PREMIER DIVISION

Liberty Stars have climbed up to third place in the Premier Division table after a scintillating late spell saw them overcome Downs to win 2-1. A Leon Lewis goal for the hosts had given them the lead but Saviola Kuffour was the hero with two dramatic late goals to win the game for the visitors.

Matches between Quality Control and Valentines United never show a shortage of goals and this latest clash was no different as the former won a nine-goal thriller by the odd goal to move up to fourth in the table. Quality Control goals from Nathan Desnoes, Malik Donaldson, Cartel Emmanuel and Blaijan Kitufueni cancelled out visitor goals from Jonathan Andrews (2), Gregory Blake and Jimmy McCann.

Another game which was settled by the odd goal was Warren United’s trip to East Ham to take on Flanders. Lawal Alhada and Kevin Griffith were the scorers for last season’s Division One champions but a James Peagram double and Harry Agombalor’s strike settled a 3-2 win for Warren who climbed above their opponents in the process.

DIVISION ONE

The leadership of Division One seems to change hands almost every week at the moment with a really interesting battle for promotion going on. The latest leaders are Barking who secured a 5-1 win on Sunday over Warren United Reserves through goals from Daniel Cook, Jordan Cook, Ben King, Bradley Marston and Charlie Surridge. Patrick Laderman was the scorer with Warren’s consolation effort.

Moving up to second in the table are Emerson Park who ran out 5-2 winners over Barking & Dagenham Wanderers with Lewis Pether’s hat-trick and a Joe Woolley double leading the way for the Hornchurch-based side. Robert Eden and Nick Read were on target with the hosts’ consolation goals.

Valley Park scooped a fifth win of the season as they beat the high-flying Chingford Celtics in a 5-2 win. Braces for each of Peter Turner and Ransford Davies-King were the difference with Luke Millard also netting to help their side to victory and a move up to fifth place in the table.

One of the biggest results of the day came in Barkingside where Aldborough Hatch cruised to a 7-1 win over hosts, St Augustines. There were goal scoring doubles for James Gibbings and Steve Belton with Simon Green, Jey Sivapathasundaram and Stephen Barnes also, cancelling out a Simon Navarro goal for the Saints.

DIVISION TWO

Westferry Elite return to the top of the pile in Division Two after edging out a really tight encounter against Lonsdale on Sunday. The result, a 1-0 victory for Elite, came through a single goal from Jonjo Walsh to move top by three points over the second placed side.

The chasing pack are drawing ever closer with Docklands Albion proving to be the in-form side at present following yet another victory at the weekend. Two goals from Ross McWilliams plus strikes from Ashley Allen, Anthony Okadigbo and Jake Kenneally saw their side to a 5-0 win over title rivals Waltham Athletic.

Remaining in touch with the pack are FC Mexico who overcame rivals Park Tavern in a 4-2 victory in Emerson Park. Sean Tormey scored twice for Tavern but his goals proved not quite enough as a Rhys Tyrrell brace added to goals from Alan Liddell and Ian Tucker to confirm an important victory for Mexico.

In the divisions other match, a Ben Hodgson goal for his E4 Rangers side was not enough to force a victory as Romford Galaxy edged the game in a 2-1 win in Rainham. That result takes Galaxy up a position and to within two points of their opponents.

DIVISION THREE

Wanstead United put the disappointment of their cup exit last week behind them on Sunday to execute a clinical 4-1 victory against Ridgeway Rovers. Bradley Drisdale scored twice for the division’s leading side, adding to further goals from Stanley Fabowale and Donavan Reynolds to cancel out a Duone Minors goal for Rovers.

Alliance United moved back up to third place in the table following a 3-1 home win on Sunday against Alpha. Kevin Davidson scored twice to increase his goal tally with Nicky Hornsby also finding the back of the net to see off a Brentton Barrett goal for the visitors.

Completing the action in Division Three this week was a seven goal thriller in West Ham where AC Milano Reserves took on FC United of Hornchurch in a relegation six-pointer. Shaun Farrow scored twice for United with Lewis Honey also netting but the hosts scored four goals of their own to confirm a 4-3 win and move off of the bottom.

DIVISION FOUR

Goresbrook have suddenly found their shooting boots in the last fortnight and recorded another big win on Sunday, taking down Hornchurch Oakmont in a 7-1 win. Ricky Cripps scored a hat-trick adding to a Charlie Barrett double and singles from Jake McGregor and Liam Coney  to render a Nathan Adams goal for the Oak a mere consolation.

Oak Royals returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 3-1 victory at Castle Green over Central Colts. Kelvin Malcolm found the back of the net with Colts’ only goal as Harry Goodman, Mark Levy and Jack O’Callaghan all scored to keep the Royals second in the table.

The battle between third and fourth placed sides Epping Forest Falcons and Heathside ended level at 2-2 with Michael Girling and Richard Noakes both scoring to take a share of the points on the day.

COUNTY CUP

In the Essex Sunday Premier Cup, Upshire took their place in the quarter finals of the competition after a comfortable 4-1 win at Brentwood-based Atletico Trotters. A bizarre own goal opened proceedings before a Lee Sontag brace and Ross Paterson goal saw off their opponents on the day.

The day’s other county cup action saw Morfdown Elect come back from 0-3 down in the Essex Junior Trophy to level the game up against Brabazon Sports, only to concede late on and lose 4-3.
