TROPHYLAND CUP

The Trophyland Cup competition continued on Sunday with two ties in the first round.

In an all-Division Two clash in Chadwell Heath, Lonsdale played host to London Fire Brigade in a hard fought battle which saw six goals. Kalium Fletcher scored twice for Lonsdale but a James Pringle brace and strikes from David Ellis and Yomi Popoola secure safe passage for Fire into the next round.

In the day’s other Trophyland tie, Division Three high-flyers Roneo Colts took on Division Two’s Flyhouse Athletic with both sides eager to continue their cup progress. And it was the higher placed Flyhouse who ran out comfortable 5-1 winners despite a Michael Jones strike from the hosts.

PREMIER DIVISION

Emerson Park have retained their position at the top of the Premier Division as they battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Romford Elite on Sunday. Joey Harris was the man on target for Park with Ben Bickford also scoring for the visitors to level things up and take a share of the spoils.

Flanders opened their league points account for the new season with a victory at home to Repton Park on Sunday in East Ham. Martin Nikolov scored twice for the hosts with Nathan Merrifield’s strike completing an excellent 3-1 victory.

DIVISION ONE

East London Old Boys’ form continues to show tremendous improvement as they moved up to second in the table this weekend following a 3-1 win at home to Waltham Athletic. Bekim Dushku was on target once again with Thomas Quinn and Lee Wickers also netting to render Bradley O’Donovan’s strike as consolation for Waltham.

Ultimate Vision returned to that winning feeling on Sunday as they travelled to Valentines United and came away victorious in a 5-2 win. Jimmy McCann and Berty Frith were the United scorers but a Ryan Chapman brace and goals from each of Kieran Ryan, Luke Thomas and Scott Duke proved decisive in handing maximum points to Vision.

There was an almighty comeback in the last of the day’s games in this division as Nick Read put Barking & Dagenham Wanderers into a 2-0 lead against FC Mexico with both goals. The lead was eventually cut however as Luke Brooker, Christopher Glensman and Joe Ewenson completed a remarkable comeback for the Mexico boys to win 3-2.

DIVISION TWO

Chingford Athletic are the new leaders of Division Two as they completed a third win in three matches with an exhilarating 4-3 win against Dagenham United in Walthamstow. A topsy-turvy game saw both sides leading at various stages with Joseph Williams netting twice and Timmothy Clutterbuck once for Dagenham. However, Michael Johnson scored twice for Athletic with Michael Boahene and Luke Arnold strikes completing a victory.

Moving up to third in the table this week are Wanstead United who travelled to Newbury Park to take on Masterman. Shaun Clarke was the hero for United with a hat-trick for his side with Johnnie Offei also scoring twice and Bradley Drisdale and Franklin Ushedo once. Kevin Davidson scored in reply for Masterman with both of their goals.

Another goal filled Division Two encounter on Sunday was witnessed in Hainault where Barca’s opening home match of the season was a seven goal thriller with Westferry Elite. Goals from Nebil Saleh, Dylan Plunkett, Billy Bradley and Scott O’Connor were enough for the hosts to record a victory by the odd goal as they ran out eventual 4-3 winners and a move up to fourth place in the table as a result.

DIVISION THREE

FC United of Hornchurch continued their great start to the new season with a second league win to preserve their perfect record thus far. They travelled to Hornchurch Oakmont at the weekend and Billy Pearce’s double plus goals from Steve Quant, Charlie Barlow and Shane Cassidy completed a 5-3 win. Ross Woolward, George Terry and Lewis Minton were on target with Oak’s consolation goals.

Alpha secured their first win of the season with a win on the road away at Alliance United in Dagenham. Connor Wallace and George Burton both found the back of the net for Alpha as they ran out 2-0 winners on the day.

Morfdown Elect’s turnaround in form continued on Sunday as they took on Asianos Reserves in Leyton. Having lost their opening two matches narrowly, they followed up their win last weekend with another victory this week as Colin Chafer and Michael Livesey netted to confirm a 2-1 win.

Two of the division’s unbeaten sides came head to head in Walthamstow as Goresbrook travelled to Peter May to take on Ridgeway Rovers, both having had good starts to the season. After a goalless first half, Samuel Berry headed in a set piece early in the second half for Goresbrook as they looked to be taking home the points. But with time running out, Aqil Ahmet came to the rescue for Rovers to preserve their unbeaten start as he netted from close range to make it 1-1 on the day.

DIVISION FOUR

The match that was top of the bill on Sunday in Division Four was a clash between two unbeaten sides as Thames Ironworks Community played host to Highams Park Royals in Plaistow with both sides eager to stay in the push for honours. The sides ended up sharing the points in a hotly contested 3-3 draw with Sam Jones, Macauley White and Luey Young netting for the visitors and level things up with Reece Lewis (2) and Kurt Smith both on target for Thames.

That result allowed Central Colts to close the gap on the leaders and they duly obliged but not without having to overcome a vastly improved Grey Area side this season. There was just a single goal to separate the sides in this hard fought clash with Colts getting it to win 1-0 and move level on points at the top with Highams Park Royals.

Winning their first league match of the new season are Custom House Community who took on Bata United in Beckton with both sides eager to put points on the board after a barren run of late. An eagerly contested battle fell in favour of the hosts as Custom House completed a 4-2 win and climb to seventh place.

Scooping a second win of the season were Epping Forest Falcons who took on Oak Royals in Newbury Park. In a match which saw defences reigning supreme, it took just one goal to settle this clash and take home the points with Ricky Bronson providing the crucial finishing touch.

East Ham Inter made it two wins from two games thus far as they took on East Ham Athletic in the East Ham derby match on Sunday… not in East Ham but in Manor Park. The sides conjured up six goals between them with Inter netting four to come out 4-2 winners on the day and moving up to third place.

COUNTY CUP

Dagenham United Reserves provided the first county cup success of the season as they played their part in a Dagenham derby match against May & Baker EC in the Essex Sunday Junior Trophy. A goal-filled encounter saw United run out 9-4 winners to make the draw for the second round.
