CORINTHIAN CUP

There were two Corinthian Cup ties played on Sunday, each pitting Division One sides against Premier Division outfits. Quality Control avoided a possible cup shock by beating Warren United Reserves 5-0 in their second trip to Barkingside in consecutive weeks. Quality’s reward is a home second round tie against Liberty Stars in a fortnight.

Meanwhile in Waltham Abbey, Upshire put aside their disappointment in exiting the FA Sunday Cup last weekend to see off Valley Park in an Epping Forest derby. The Premier Division leaders ran out 5-1 winners despite a Valley goal from Oliver Bush to book an away quarter final at Aldborough Hatch or Repton Park.

TROPHYLAND CUP

Alpha are fast picking up the tag of being a cups specialist side following a second win over higher division opposition in the Trophyland Cup. This time it was the Division Two high-flyers, London Fire Brigade, who fell to defeat at the hands of the Wanstead outfit, losing 2-0 as Nathan James and Kai Haysman scored the goals to put Alpha through to the quarter final.

Park Tavern reached double figures in their own tie as they saw off Division Three outfit, FC United of Hornchurch, in a 10-3 victory. David Hornsby laid the foundations by bagging a hat-trick with braces from Connor Frost and Kristopher Brown and singles from Craig Bish, Jack Blackburn and George Nobbs round things off.

PREMIER DIVISION

Lactico missed the chance to go top of the table as Repton Park rescued an unlikely point in a 4-4 draw in Hainault. Gozling Jenkins’s hat-trick plus a goal from Henderson Browne had given Lactico a seemingly unassailable 4-1 lead but Adam Matthews’ brace for Repton plus strikes from Jayden Ambrose and Jesse Spearing scored them a dramatic share of the spoils.

There was a comfortable win for Downs who came from behind to secure a 4-1 victory over Warren United in Wanstead. A goal apiece for each of James Briggs, Rajpac Bumbra, Daniel Barron and debutant Leon Lewis cancelled out the James Peagram opener for Warren to climb up to fourth in the table.

Liberty Stars moved up to fifth in the table following a 3-1 win on Sunday against Ainslie Wood with Eric Kelly netting Wood’s consolation goal. After a difficult start, the Beckton-based side have shown a real turn in form with consecutive league wins.

DIVISION ONE

Due to county cup commitments, there was just one match in Division One which saw a single goal separate Dagenham United and Emerson Park. Kyle Paevie netted the only goal of a tight game as Emerson Park remain sixth in the table and hot on the heels of the sides above them.

DIVISION TWO

Waltham Athletic took full advantage of London Fire Brigade being out of league action this weekend as they secured a win by the odd goal in five against E4 Rangers to move top of the table. A goal each for Zachery Leitch and Charlie Saywood edged their side to a 3-2 win and maintained an unbeaten start to the campaign.

Westferry Elite are very much in the promotion frame again this year as they saw off Romford Galaxy yesterday in a 3-0 victory in Rainham. That win lifts the east London side up to third in the table and within touching distance of the top of the table.

DIVISION THREE

Asianos Reserves maintained their unbeaten record in Division Three so far this season on Sunday as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at Fairlop Rangers. The win moves the Leyton-based side up to third in the table in what looks like being a real fight for the title this year.

Another side on the climb up the table were Ridgeway Rovers who overcame AC Milano Reserves in Walthamstow to secure a 4-2 win. Jordan Charles, Jaden Maloney and Duone Minors all hit the target for Rovers to move them up to fourth in the table.

DIVISION FOUR

SL Menfica are three points clear at the top of Division Four as the Aveley side saw off a plucky Epping Forest Falcons side at the weekend, winning 4-1. The Menfica goals arrived through Joe Allen, James Dobson, Joshua Troy and Thomas Rice to cancel out a Gary Sare goal for the visitors.

There was a star performance from Ryan Mitchell to separate the sides in the Oak Royals and Central Colts clash as his four-goal performance carried his side to a 4-2 win at Newbury Park. That win keeps the Royals in second place in the table with a third of the season completed so far.

COUNTY & CHARITY CUPS

In the Essex Junior Cup, Korona Redbridge booked their place in the third round with a narrow win at Emerson Oak by two goals to one. Their reward is a trip to Grays where they will take on Thames Gateway in November.

St Augustines were also victorious in the Junior Cup as they beat fellow Corinthian side, FC Mexico, in the second round tie. The Division One outfit saw off their lower division opponents in a 3-1 win to confirm home clash in the next round against Fox & Fiddler.

Exiting the competition over the weekend were Docklands Albion who were defeated 5-0 at JG Chingford while Valentines United went down 6-1 at home to Virtue to end their participation this season.

The Essex Junior Trophy saw a Corinthian winner in each match-up as Barking & Dagenham Wanderers came through a high-scoring encounter with Division Four’s Grey Area, winning 6-3 to book a third round place away at Hillford.

In a similarly high-scoring encounter, Barking continued a remarkably high-scoring start to the season by putting Lonsdale to the sword in an 8-4 win in Dagenham. They will now face a trip up the M11 in November to take on Social Club Birchanger Reserves in round three.

Hornchurch Oakmont put in an impressive performance against Custom House Community to book a place in round three of the competition, seeing off their opposition after extra-time in a 4-3 win. They will face either South Shell United or Hullbridge Sports Reserves once the county FA have dealt with their abandonment.

And completing a quartet of victories, Morfdown Elect made the third round for the first time in many years as they beat Barnet League-based Waltham Forest Reserves 2-0 in Dagenham to make it through. They now host east London-based Brabazon Sports in the third round in November.

In the West Essex Sunday Charity Cup, last years finalists – Chingford Celtics – booked a place in the quarter finals of the competition again as they beat JK Silvertown 2-0 to make it through to take on Emerson Park.
