It is certainly something which is continuing to get a lot of publicity and there is no sign of an end to this period of poor weather that the country is experiencing.
In football terms, it is beginning to break records for the most number of weeks lost and we haven't even had any snow yet!
To give you an idea of how many matches we have lost this season, we have run some reports to emphasise the situation:
Season 2013/14 - Fixture Statistics
Fixture type | Total fixtures scheduled | Total Postponements | % Matches Lost |
---|---|---|---|
League fixtures | 220 | 46 | 20% |
Cup fixtures | 66 | 17 | 25% |
So when you look at the statistics, a staggering 63 matches have been lost this season to the weather, almost a quarter of all fixtures planned!
But just how does this compare to past seasons? Looking at last season's statistics up to the same point in the season gives you an idea:
Season 2012/13 - Fixture Statistics
Fixture type | Total fixtures scheduled | Total Postponements | % Matches Lost |
---|---|---|---|
League fixtures | 208 | 38 | 18% |
Cup fixtures | 101 | 25 | 25% |
So when you compare the two seasons, it remarkably reveals a distinct similarity in the percentage of fixtures lost to the weather overall which I guess means that, statistically at least, we are still on course to finish the season!
