WEEK 23 REVIEW: Round-up of all the Corinthian League action from the weekend

TROPHYLAND CUP

In the Trophyland Cup, the remaining quarter-final tie was completed on Sunday with Division Three's AC Milano Reserves in home action with the visit of May & Baker EC from Division Five. Despite the gap between the sides in league rankings, Bakers made this a game and Jordan Miller got on their scoresheet. But Milano ended up winners by full-time, winning 3-1 to head into the last four.

SENIOR DIVISION

The top flight action saw two surviving games with Brook Athletic moving to within a point of the top two places, moving third following a strong 4-2 victory away at Total Football. Callum Ibe scored a couple of goals with Samir Bihmoutine and Fabio Nunes efforts enough in the end, rendering goals from Marcus Painter and Oliver Marshall as consolation for the hosts.

Over at Parsloes Park, hosts FLY were up against a stern test with the visit of second placed Critics on Sunday morning, the sides seperated by just three points heading into the contest. A cracking game ended in a 4-4 draw with Reo Griffiths scoring two for the visitors, Dylan Broadley and Dylan Florence netting the others for Critics to earn them a point.

DIVISION ONE

The sole Division One action from the weekend came from Loughton where hosts Cinoci were up against Barking & Dagenham Wanderers, seeking to reverse their recent fortunes. They did that in great style in the end, winning 6-1 with Dharwinder Mattoo netting a brace, Marlon Joseph, Gideon Adomakoh and Nicholas Barrett all finding the back of the net.

DIVISION TWO

Over at Castle Green, Cloud 9's resurgence saw them make the trip down to Dagenham to take on an FC Galaxy side, the hosts beginning the day with a four point lead over their opponents. But by full-time, Cloud had reduced that to a single point, winning 4-2 in their sixth win of the season, overcoming Galaxy goals from Mihai Mareniuc and Ruben Costache.

DIVISION THREE CUP

The first league cup finalists of the season were confirmed on Sunday as JP8 made it a memorable first season in competitive football, overcoming South Ilford Catholics in Dagenham to send them into the final. They were 3-0 winners on the day as they now await the winners of the other semi-final between Upshire Forest and Valence United.

DIVISION THREE

Back in the league, City Site closed the gap on the promotion places to just four points with games in hand, recording a strong 6-1 home win against fellow challengers, Valence United. Alex Paraskeva scored a hat-trick for the hosts, Aloisio Santos, Frederick Mattock and James Cole also netting to render Rowan Newland's goal as consolation for the visitors.

Over at Hainault Rec, Upshire Forest made the journey down to take on United Amateurs with points vital for both sides but for different reasons. Despite a thirteen point gap leading into the fixture, Amateurs made hard work for their opponents but Jay Digance and Rhys Thurgood goals for Upshire were enough to record a 2-1 win.

DIVISION FOUR

In Division Four, there was another big game this weekend affecting matter at the top with Warren Senior in home action with the visit of Colebrook Royals Reserves, a vital game for both sides. Jamie Meakin scored for the Royals but host goals from Alfie Boland, Daniel Ross, Scott McGlynn and Anthony Cooke saw Warren win it 4-1 and move top of the table by a point.

There was a big win for fourth placed Prospect Protege also who were up against local neighbours, Silencio, in the battle of the hedge in Hainault. It ended up with Prospect scooping their seventh league win of the season, winning 6-1 courtesy of a goal apiece from Jevonte Cassar, Joe Elsworth, Tye Gittos, Louie Handley and Ethan Kieran.

DIVISION FIVE

At the top of Division Five, Royal Lions B have moved into a four point lead at the top with six games to go following the weekend's results. The Hainault based side made a successful trip to Castle Green to face Lonsdale, returning home with all three points in a 5-1 win. Charlie Owen struck with the hosts' goal but that proved in vain by the end.

There was an east London derby in the other game from the division as Mansfield Rangers took on Alpha at Wanstead Flats. The sides started the day three points apart and were well matched, the game ending in a 3-3 score draw to take a point apiece. Jay Kanber, Ben Tempero and Billy Happe scored for Rangers with Tafari Vernege, Marco Nunes and Kevin Mullen on target for Alpha.

DIVISION SIX

Chingford Athletic have moved to the cusp of confirming promotion from Division Six as they returned their eleventh win of the season on Sunday with the visit of Mayfield Kings to Town Mead. Two goals from Darryl Wilson off the bench proved vital with Justin Clarke and PJ Marcus also netting in the 4-1 win, leaving them a win from runners-up.

NATIONAL CUP

It was quarter-final day in the FA Sunday Cup with AFC Hackleton making the trip down from Northamptonshire to take on Baiteze Squad at Barking. The visitors got into the lead before Baiteze levelled shortly after to make it 1-1. Neither side could further trouble the scoresheet so a shootout was needed, that being won by the visitors who headed through into the semi-finals.
