WEEK 5 REVIEW: Round-up of all the Corinthian League action from the weekend

CORINTHIAN CUP
The opening action from the Corinthian Cup took place on Sunday with FC Galaxy safely through in round one following their 4-0 away win over Singh Sabha Barking assisted by goals from Damian Avram, Ilie Cojocaru, Mihai Mareniuc and Alexandru Sotiris.
Over in Rainham, East End United and May & Baker EC renewed old rivalries in round two action where goals from Alex Paraskeva, Billy Biggs and Shane Hovell meant it was Bakers leaving 3-0 winners on the day.
TROPHYLAND CUP
In the Trophyland Cup, there were three last sixteen ties completed with Gatcliffe completing a cupset win over Condor Under 23s in the Dagenham derby, the hosts leaving as 4-2 winners and through into the next round.
That scoreline was reflected in the game from Wanstead Flats which saw Stone Town overcome an in-form East London Spartans side, 4-2 the final scoreline despite a Spartan brace from Jayden Hocking-Rising.
There was another cupset in the game from Hainault where Warren United moved passed higher ranked opposition in a 3-1 victory over Manford Way Reserves. Liam Daly, Sonny Clarke and Oliver Regan goals put them through with Luca Allen-McKie responding.
ENDEAVOUR CUP
There were some near misses in the Endeavour Cup including as Forest Albion moved into a two goal lead over Barking Colts through Josh Smith and Jared Agyapong only for Emmanuel Fowowe and Akeem Matthews to level at 2-2, before Colts won it 4-3 in the shootout.
It was a similarly close game at Forest Row where Highams Park Rangers held Division Five’s Ace Athletics to a 1-1 draw in the ninety minutes with Craig Cagehin striking for Ace. It was the higher ranked Ace side who then won the shootout 4-3 to progress on.
Rainham Working Mens Club Reserves found their shooting boots on Sunday to head into round two, defeating United Amateurs Reserves 9-1 aided by four Daniel Sneddon goals and others from Ritchie Weeks, Ryan Livesey, Jamie Crews, Jack Drake and Luke MacDonald.
Also heading through are United Amateurs, securing a comfortable 4-1 away win over Eastside Athletic with Jack Chawner firing in a hat-trick, Afolabi Olugbile the other, while Mason Active scored the ‘Side goal in reply.
Completing the action was the tie from Walthamstow as Young Royals secured safe passage into the next round following their 4-2 win over Valence United Reserves. Keenan Mitchell and Benjamin Peer goals were overcome by braces from Muhammed Cheruvakkath and Thilakshan Nanthagiri.
FA SUNDAY CUP
It was the opening day in this season’s national cup competition and the early fixture action from Parkside saw Baiteze Squad head through into the next round following their solid 5-2 winning performance over FC Broxbourne.
Their opponents will be a Baddoo side in round two after the Hackney & Leyton League team came out on top of their first round tie with AC Milano in the later game at Parkside, 2-0 the final scoreline there.
In north London, East London Ballers saw a two goal lead surrendered in their clash with Highgate Albion as the tie ended 2-2, before coming from behind in the shootout to eventually prevail 3-2, setting up a trip to Kent next month.
DIVISION TWO
In Division Two, Prospect Protégé saw their perfect start come to a halt in their away trip to Barking & Dagenham Wanderers as the latter edged the clash 3-2. Francesco Iheanyiogu scored two and Harvi Shehi once in the win, Jayden Thiongo and Patrick Kizito with the Prospect goals.
That result meant that Gants Hill could move top with a win and they obliged after a goal-filled 5-3 win over Turkmenkoy at Westlands. Alex Balisani scored two, Dilan Thandi, Shehroz Latif and Yasir Rashid with the others while Brookly Marku, Andi Lika and Mitchell Smith scored for the hosts.
Manford Way sit as part of a number of number of teams in the chasing pack, confirming a second league win following their 3-0 home success over Colebrook Royals Reserves, aided by Ollie Scott and Sonny Binet goals.
It was a good morning’s work from Byron Red Star who confirmed their first win of the new season with a big 6-1 away success over East London Ballers Reserves, climbing them up the table and into sixth spot.
DIVISION THREE
It’s as you were at the top of Division Three where Newbury Drive lead the way by a single point following their big 6-1 home win over Euro Stars in Hainault to keep at the summit.
East Park Rovers remain the side closest placed to challenge, defeating Rainham Working Mens Club by the odd goal on Sunday following Ryan Lewis and Frankie Naidoo goals in a 2-1 success, Connor Kain scoring for the Workies.
DIVISION FOUR
Valence United produced the biggest win of the day in their local derby fixture with Dagenham United, winning 10-0 with Ben Bickford, Dan Cook, Jahsiah Weekes and Michael O’Brien all scoring braces, Charlie Surridge and Oliver Webb the others.
The other game from the division proved rather more sedate in the goalscoring stakes where a Jordan Huggins effort from Redbridge Athletic proved the crucial moment of their 1-0 win over Leytonstone Athletic.
DIVISION FIVE
The sole game from Division Five saw Lonsdale go top of the league following their 4-1 victory on the road at Highams Park as Emanuel Ntoi and Klalnti Chotza both scored twice, David Harris with the Park consolation.
DIVISION SIX
There were plenty of goals in Division Six, starting as Ridgeway Rovers Under 21s moved top of the table following a 6-3 win at Zone 4 Athletic. Romeo Cuchillo scored a hat-trick, Max Chamberlain two and Kye Williamson one while Jerome Greenidge struck twice and Zac Doyle once in reply.
Hainault Athletic were also in strong form as they racked up a 5-1 home win against Rush Green Rangers as Asaph and Heritier Lomena both scored two, Jake Magson the other, while Abdulkarim Abdillah found the net for Rangers.
Over at Parsloes Park, Barkingside produced their third win of the new season to move into second place in the standings, overcoming Tom Tracey and Charlie Monaghan efforts from Emerson & Upminster to win the game 4-2.
COUNTY CUP
In the Essex Sunday Junior Cup, it was first round action ahead of Debden Sports Reserves as they were visited by Writtle at the weekend. It was the visitors who edged a close tie, 2-1 the final scoreline to see them progress.
It was a trip south of the river for East London Ballers Under 23s as their London Sunday Junior Cup conquest started with a tie against Welling Park Rangers as Ballers completed a comfortable 4-2 win on the day.
Also heading across the water on Sunday were Chingford Athletic who were up against a South Ballers side in a tie which saw the teams end level at 1-1 after ninety minutes before Ballers won the shootout 4-3 in the end.
