Congratulations to Asianos Reserves who scored twice in the second half to edge a thrilling Division Four Cup Final 2-0 on Friday night against Newham Athletic.

A crowd of almost 250 were at Parkside to witness the first Corinthian final to be played at Aveley's splendid venue with the first half seeing chances for both sides. A typically rumbustuous and frenetic cup final first half was played at a high tempo as chances came and went at both ends of the park with very little to pull the sides apart. The first half somehow ended at 0-0.

Newham Athletic came out of the blocks fastest in the second half with an effort striking the bar but their endeavours were cut short on the hour as a splendid volley from twenty yards from the Asianos attacker nestled into the top corner to send the vocal crowd into raptures. Newham threw everything they had into the ring to attempt to find a leveller but a killer second came shortly before the end. A free-kick came back off the woodwork and the Asianos forward was sharpest to the rebound to strike a crucial winner.

James Goodman's full-time whistle was met with terrific applause from all quarters of the crowd who had enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening's entertainment in the mild Spring air. Congratulations to Zafir, Naveed and all of the Asianos boys on their victory. Commiserations to Chris and his determined Newham Athletic side who fought valiantly until the end. We wish them the best of luck in their quest for the league title.
