With the sun shining and the pitch looking fabulous as always, the scene was set on Sunday for a great day of cup final football.

Corinthian Cup Final – Upshire vs Barking

The morning final saw Premier Division champions elect, Upshire, take on Division One’s Barking. There was goal scoring action within the first couple of the minutes as a penalty was awarded to Barking and was coolly slotted away by leading marksman Danny Cook for a 1-0 lead. Upshire then had the majority of possession for the remainder of the half but weren’t able to sufficiently test Wayne Baker in the Barking goal.

The second half saw a similar pattern of play with Upshire having the greater proportion of the play and creating a number of half chances but Danny Cook’s pressure on the Upshire keeper paid it’s dividends as a fumble allowed a second goal. Then a couple of minutes later, Kastriot Vata raced clear and around the keeper to make it 3-0 to Barking to complete a remarkable win for the underdogs.

Trophyland Cup Final – FC Mexico vs SL Menfica

As we rolled into a bright and sunny afternoon, Division Two’s FC Mexico returned to the Trophyland Cup final for a second consecutive season, taking on Division Four’s SL Menfica. The game was a tightly contested affair with chances at a premium and defences on top during the first half of the match with the sides ending goalless at the break.

The second half started much in the same fashion with both sides battling hard but neither really able to really grasp much control of proceedings. The game took a decisive swing however on the hour as Charlie Parish netted from close range in what proved to be the only goal of the game. FC Mexico pressed forward but couldn’t get themselves back into the game as the SL Menfica lifted the Trophyland Cup crown.
