On one of the hottest days experienced in a long time, Repton Park and El Valiente came together for the inaugural Corinthian Charity Shield Final on Sunday at a sun-kissed Matchday Centres Wadham Lodge.
The two sides flew out of the blocks and both had missed chances before El Valiente scored from distance to give their side a lead. That was doubled before the break as the attacker got in behind to make it 2-0, either side of the essential water breaks.
The second half saw El Valiente come out hard and they extended their lead first to 3 then 4-0. But Repton Park never gave up and rallied with two goals just after the hour mark, making it an interesting ending. But El Valiente had the last laugh, netting a fifth goal on the break to wrap up a deserved 5-2 win.
Congratulations to Matt and his side on their victory, and to Repton Park for their role in a very good game of football. We must also thank the spectators who came along to support the match and to our terrific hosts at Matchday Centres.
