DIVISION 2 CUP FINAL
ROOSE 2-0 GORESBROOK

The Division 2 Cup Final finally was able to take place on Wednesday night as Roose and holders Goresbrook faced each at Mayesbrook Park seeking their put their name on the trophy this season.

The game started with Roose in early control of proceedings and they thought they had a lead after two minutes as a deflected free kick found it’s way to the attacker but, despite slotting it away, he was adjudged to have been offside. They then struck the bar and post from distance as it looked like being one way traffic for the cup final debutants. But Goresbrook fought back hard and had the better of the rest of the half, first heading onto the woodwork from a corner, a breakaway run leading to a shot wide of the post and then a fantastic last ditch tackle from a Roose defender as the midfielder was bearing down to score a near certain goal. Later in the half, Roose put some great moves together and almost force a goal but found the Goresbrook stopper in fine form with a double save.

The second half started in frenetic fashion with Goresbrook forcing a big save out of the Roose keeper to keep things level and that proved an important moment as almost straight away, Roose broke to the other end of the field and the striker found the space he needed in behind to make it 1-0. That sparked a real reaction in the holders as they took control of proceedings but were largely unable to force any openings. They did go close from a free-kick which was saved well from the Roose stopper and then the best Goresbrook chance of the game as a great low cross was turned agonisingly wide by the centre forward from ten yards. Roose rode out the storm and eventually scored a second on the counter attack late on, slotting in from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 and pick up the silverware.

Congratulations to all involved with Roose on an enthralling victory and to Goresbrook for battling hard to make that final a real treat to spectate.
