Newly reformed side Masterman FC will take on FC Mexico in the Martin Pain Charity Shield match this weekend to raise crucial funds for The National Brain Appeal.

Organiser James Jackson says:

"On the 24th February 2014, my dear friend Martin Pain passed away to a cancerous brain tumour, he was only 34 years old. He had been receiving specialist treatment for the past 3 years at The London Neurology Hospital in Holborn which is a part of the UCLH.

Prior to that, he was told by The Royal London at he had 6 months to live and there was nothing they could do for him. Martin refused to give up and searched for help.

He found the London Neurology Hospital where they helped to prolong his life for 3 years. He did not want anyone to know how bad his condition was, and continued to fight his illness in much secrecy all the way through. It is heartbreaking for his family, to lose their son at such a young age.

During this time, he had many surgeries on his brain along with many bouts of both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. The professionals and specialist team gave him the most incredible care and support that was needed for this incurable disease. They never give up on him and gave him the spirit to keep on fighting his horrid condition that such a young and healthy man should never need to face.

Martin played Sunday league football with me and all our friends, he was the team captain. We play for Masterman Football Club at Fords, Newbury Park. He is sadly missed as a player and a dear friend.

The Masterman team and I are organising a 'Football Charity Shield Match' and fundraiser in honour of our team captain and good friend Martin Pain.

This will take place on 27th August at Fords, Newbury Park. After the football match, we are a holding a raffle and charity auction and have some great prizes and auction lots to sell. We would welcome bids prior to the auction day with All funds raised being donated to The National Brain Appeal Charity (290173).

Thank you for your time and I do hope you can help this good cause."
