This Sunday sees the second of four outside cup finals featuring a Corinthian club as Theydon Green take their place in the final of the Essex Sunday Junior Cup, taking on Brentwood Sunday League side Santos in this showpiece event at Bowers & Pitsea FC at 2pm.

The run to the final for Russ Barrett's side saw a tight first round victory with a 1-0 success away at Harlow Corinthia before the first of several comfortable victories as they beat Woodham Athletic 7-1, followed by a third round success beating Feering Village 11-0. A run of home games then saw Green defeat fellow Division One side, Chingford Athletic, 7-0 at Roding Valley, following that up with a 5-0 success in another all-Corinthian game against Oceana to reach the semi-finals. To say the semi-final was dramatic would be an understatement as they saw the visit of south Essex based Kent View United and were looking comfortable at 2-0 during the second half. But a United fightback saw them level and lead twice before a late goal enabled Green to make it 4-4 and send the game to extra-time. Green finally scored a crucial fifth during the extra thirty minutes to get them over the line 5-4 and into the final!

Theydon's opponents in the final are a Santos side riding high in the second tier of the Brentwood Sunday League, thereby are the higher ranked side, on paper at least. They sit top of Division One with a close battle against Herongate United going on for the league title with both all but assured a place in the top tier already. The two strikers will be the men to keep an eye on with Sener Suavi and Grant Frances both having scored over twenty goals this term. It's clear that Santos will present a good challenge for a Green side who's only defeat came in the Corinthian Cup earlier in the year.

We wish Russ and all of the Theydon Green players the very best of luck for their final on Sunday afternoon and we look forward to being there to cheer you on!
