WEEK 1 REVIEW: Round-up of all the Corinthian League action from the opening weekend

DIVISION ONE

Yeni Bogazici lead the way after week one of the new season, beating promoted Singh Sabha Barking 6-2. Manshaant Mahil and Marcus Carter struck for Barking but Tamirian Mirzoev’s hat-trick proved too much, along with Conor Russel, Obed Sunkwah and Ahret Tunc goals.

It was a local derby in the game from Parsloes Park where East London Ballers were beaten 4-2 by Baiteze Squad on the opening day with Kevar March-McKenzie scoring two, Oscar Opolot-Oguli and Jordy Mumbiny the others.

Another side tasting victory on the first weekend were CSM London who fought back to take all three points against FC Galaxy with Ashley King, Kyran Chiedozie and Mohamed Bouhajbane goals earning them a 3-2 win.

DIVISION TWO

Promoted Prospect Protégé took three points in their first outing of the new season, beating fellow promotes, East End United, in a 7-3 scoreline. Archie Kieran’s hat-trick led the way, Alexander Brennand (2), Patrick Kizito and Lewis Skam the others while Loui Grech, Charlie Mifsud and Joseph McEnroe netted in reply.

Another side to hit seven on the opening day were Barking & Dagenham Wanderers, comfortably seeing off Turkmenkoy in a 7-1 scoreline through Keanan Bancroft and Edward Andriescu braces and strikes from Joshua Renwick-Smith, Harvi Shehi and Francesco Iheanyiogu. Deren Kale notched for the visitors in reply.

May & Baker EC made a winning start to the new season, earning all three points at Parsloes Park in a 2-1 victory against Byron Red Star. Robbie Farrell and Joshua Taylor grabbed the goals with Adrian John scoring for Byron in response.

That scoreline was also reflected in the final game from the division as Gants Hill took on East London Ballers Reserves on the opening day in Newbury Park, Hill edging their way to a 2-1 win to secure the points.

DIVISION THREE

It’s Newbury Drive leading the way by the odd goal at the top of the Division Three table, earning themselves a hard fought 3-2 win at East Park Rovers. Charlie Bliss and Micah Angel goals were overcome by Luke Newbury-Neale, Graham Bryan and Harrison Wright strikes for Drive.

Sitting in second place are Debden Sports Reserves who begun their season with a narrow 2-1 win against Manford Way Reserves with Jack Humphries and Zachariah Appauh efforts rendering Arthur Maskell’s goal as consolation.

It ended all square in the opening game of the season from Rainham Working Mens Club as they and Stone Town completed a 1-1 draw to share the spoils, aided by a Dillon Anderson goal from the hosts.

DIVISION FOUR

Goals were the order of the day in Division Four, beginning in Loughton where Warren United produced a thrilling 5-4 win over Redbridge Athletic with Cane Sullivan and Sonny Clarke doubles added to by Aidan Butler’s effort. Daniaal Choudhary, Junior Milla, Sameer Rizwan and Daniel Garfinkle were the on the Redbridge scoresheet.

Two teams who could not be separated were Gatcliffe and East London Spartans as their game ended in a 3-3 draw at Barking & Dagenham College. Jayden Hocking-Rising scored twice for Spartans, Michael Taylor adding the other.

It was a little more routine just down the road where Valence United produced a first win of the season, beating London Legacy 4-0 with a goal apiece from Michael O’Brien, Reece Stanley, Jahsiah Weekes and Rasheed Fasanya.

DIVISION FIVE

It was narrow margins in the two games from Division Five, beginning in Barkingside where Valence United Reserves opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory at debutants, Eastside Athletic, with Isaac Malillah’s goal giving his side all three points.

The teams couldn’t be separated at Forest Row where promoted Collier Row earned a share of the points on the opening day in a 1-1 draw against Rainham Working Mens Club Reserves. Chris Kipoy scored for the hosts with Daniel Sneddon firing for the Workies.

DIVISION SIX

Brooklyn Johnson’s hat-trick saw Barkingside to an opening day win, eventually holding off a Forest Albion fightback to earn a 4-2 win. Freddy Freeman and Lasha Kharbedia goals had twice brought Albion level while Gabriel Morlova also netted for ‘Side.

Zone 4 Athletic started their new season with a hard fought win as Jerome Greenidge’s brace and a Samuel Maguire-Hughes effort handed them a 3-2 win over Rush Green Rangers. Alfie Sasse netted two for Rangers in reply.

It ended all square in the final match from the weekend where Romford Bullsharks took an opening day point in a 2-2 draw against United Amateurs Reserves, helped by Zachary Bussell and George Creedon goals.
