SL Menfica were 5-1 winners in Friday night's Division 1 Cup Final against St Augustines at Aveley FC to secure the double and bring an end this this year's Corinthian football action.

The league champions were out of the blocks in stunning fashion netting twice in the opening five minutes, first seeing their wide man pick up the ball midway through the Saints half before driving into the box and curling home an effort, It become 2-0 just seconds later as Menfica capitalised on a mistake at the back, rounding the keeper to roll home. Then midway through the first half it was 3-0 as a low cross from the right was turned in. And it was 4-0 before the break as the number 9 travelled a long way without being challenged before squaring the ball for another tap in.

Despite those setbacks in the first half, St Augustines will have been relishing the opportunity to perform their own miracle after those witnessed in European football over the past few days and they were far improved after the break. They almost capitalised on a set piece as the ball fell to a Saints man in the scramble but his effort was underhit and the keeper cleared. They then had a couple of decent long range efforts squeeze just past the post too. But SL Menfica managed to survive the pressure and net a fifth themselves, beating the offside trap to round the keeper and net past the recovering defenders. The Saints did grab a goal back with about ten minutes to go with a decent strike from distance making it 5-1 on the night but alas the miracle comeback didn't quite follow.

Player-Manager David Hornsby took home the matchball (quite literally) for his stunning hat-trick on the night, completing his and Connor's teams' league and cup double. Many congratulations to all of the SL Menfica squad for their terrific achievement and to St Augustines for putting in a sterling second half effort despite the contest being out of their grasp at the break.
