TROPHYLAND CUP

The third round action in the Trophyland Cup has almost come to end and Hornchurch Oakmont are now into the hat for the quarter finals following a 5-3 victory at home, overcoming a potential banana skin against Division Four high-flyers Newham Athletic. Thomas Gibson scored twice with Ellis Marsh, Lewis Minton and Luke Newman all netting for Oak. James Field, Chris Jennings and Joseph McEnroe were the men on target for Newham in consolation.

PREMIER DIVISION CUP

This season’s Premier Division Cup action got underway on Sunday with the first round tie between El Valiente and Ultimate Vision taking centre stage. After a good performance last time out for Vision, they would have been hoping to cause a shock but Aaron Marston scored four for El Valiente and Sam Edwards notched two as they ran out 6-1 winners. Ryan Chapman grabbed the Vision goal in reply.

DIVISION THREE CUP

There were plenty of goals in the Division Three Cup ties with West Essex and E4 Rangers combining to play out a nine goal thriller in their local derby. E4 goals from Charlie Parry, Tim Dye, Mitchell-Christopher Edmonds and Macauley White all scored for their side but their efforts proved in vain as West ran out winners to book a quarter final spot.

The day’s other tie in this competition saw a competitive match between Ping City Phoenixes and Roneo Colts who couldn’t be separated for long spells of the game before Roneo’s persistence finally paid off with late goals in a 4-2 victory. James Pottle scored twice with Tommy Harber and Rhys Marshall also on target to secure their progression.

DIVISION FOUR CUP

In the Division Four Cup, in-form Oak Royals saw their cup challenge come to a halt as they were beaten by bottom of the table Thames Ironworks Community Reserves in Plaistow. Thames were comfortable 4-1 victors in a result which books their place in the next round at home to Grey Area. Thames goals from Martin Henneaux, Lee Mpensah, Tom Hooker and Wayne Gittens done the damage in the end.

There was also a first round win for Monkhams who carried positive recent form into their clash at home to Epping Forest Falcons, the reward for the winner being a trip to face Asianos Reserves in the last eight. Monkhams goals from Samuel Griffin and Cameron Perryer proved the difference in the end in a 2-0 win for the hosts.

PREMIER DIVISION

In domestic action, there was a tenth league win for the league leaders as Repton Park exacted a degree of revenge for a pre-Christmas reverse against Barking & Dagenham Wanderers, winning their most recent contest 2-0. Goals from Conor Smith and Jesse Spearing took the leaders to a nine point lead at the top and keeps them odds on for the title with the bookies.

That outcome was made all the more important after second placed Romford Elite were held to an entertaining draw in their match at home to Flanders in Chadwell Heath. Elite goals from Ben Bickford, Chris Bird and Joshua Thompson were equalled by Flanders strikes from Connor Cobb, Shomari Barnwell and Kweku Gyasi meaning the sides had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

The remaining result also proved to be a real shock as Brook Athletic moved clear of the relegation zone on goal difference following a win away at reigning champions, Warren United. Sean Green scored twice and James Peagram once for United but Brook goals from Kyle Thompson, Brandon Ferdinand and Brandon Martin secured a 4-3 win that will serve to raise their spirits for the run-in.

DIVISION ONE

The picture at the top of Division One remains the same with SL Menfica leading the way and their position was strengthened considerably as second and third placed Chingford Athletic and Ridgeway Rovers could only combine for a 0-0 goalless draw in their contest on Sunday. That result leaves Menfica three points clearly presently and with a game in hand.

DIVISION TWO

Dagenham United have opened up a two point gap at the summit of Division Two and with a game in hand still as they came form behind against FC Kulture Klub to secure a 4-3 win on Sunday. Sean Thomas was the hero yet again with a hat-trick with a Ricardo Teixeira goal doing the damage. Adnan Hamdan scored twice and Zane Sobers one in reply for Klub.

Barking missed the chance to stay level on points as they were held to a draw in a tough game against Ferns Seniors in Chadwell Heath. With little to separate these sides on the day, Michael Kane grabbed the Barking goal but Tyler Rothon’s goal saw the teams finish at 1-1 and take home a point each.

Bretons Manor have moved up to fifth place in the standings as they took home all three points again an out-of-sorts Goresbrook side. William Cox got on the scoresheet for Goresbrook but Manor braces from Sam Cooper and Jack McAllister, coupled with efforts from David Kilminster and Kane White, saw Goresbrook succumb to a 6-1 defeat and fall bottom of the table.

That outcome was made reality after previously bottom of the pile, Walthamstow Avenue, continued their tremendous form in this new calendar year, netting five goals past Lonsdale away from home in a 5-1 win. Zachary Leitch scored a hat-trick with Ray Richardson and Bradley O’Donovan goals completing the scoring in their third league win of the campaign, overcoming a Conor Treadwell effort for the hosts.

DIVISION THREE

In Division Three, Central Colts have opened up a ten point gap at the top of the table as they reigned supreme in their Castle Green derby match against co-tenants Dagenham United Reserves. Paul Bergamini was on target for the Daggers but his effort was in vain as Colts ran in three goals of their own to win it 3-1.

There was plenty of entertainment on offer at Wanstead Flats where Alpha and Masterman went head-to-head in their match, the former desperately needing points to impose themselves on the promotion picture. Kai Brown scored twice and Louie Newell one but Masterman battled back and levelled it at 3-3 to share the spoils.

DIVISION FOUR

Into Division Four and Woodford have made their move to the top of the table, taking advantage of Newham Athletic being in cup action to getting their new year underway in style. They were 2-0 winners in a hard fought contest away at Alliance United and will hope for their rivals to drop points in the title run-in.

Third placed East Ham Inter could still pose a major threat at the top and they made their move up a place courtesy of a victory away at Grey Area on Sunday, moving above their opponents in the process. Sofyan Khalfi and Pricewell Eze were the scorers for Inter in a 2-0 win that keeps them well placed and hoping for some slip-ups themselves.

The entertainment continued into the remaining league action of the day with no fewer than eight goals comprising the match between AC Milano Reserves and Asianos Reserves at West Ham Park, a thrilling encounter. It took some late goals from Asianos to rescue a draw, coming from 4-2 down to level it up and take home a point.

CHARITY CUP

It wouldn’t be a cup competition without the odd shock here and there and the West Essex Sunday Charity Cup certainly didn’t disappoint on Sunday as both ties went the way of lower league opposition. In the “Cup” competition, former finalists Valentine United are into the semi finals after they came from behind to defeat top flight side, FC Mexico, 2-1.

And in the “Trophy” competition, there was a similar shock as the cup specialists, Royal Albert, continued their fight on all fronts this season, overcoming a division deficit to see off the challenge of St Augustines in Beckton. They are through to a home semi-final against either Shereforce or Alpha.
