COUNTY CUP

The Corinthian League are pleased to be once again represented in the Essex Sunday Junior Trophy final for a second successive season as Royal Albert booked their place in the biggest match of their history following Sunday’s semi final win over fellow Corinthian side, Hornchurch Oakmont. In wet and blustery conditions, Hornchurch had the better of the opening exchanges but were caught on the break by a super Albert strike before that lead was doubled in the opening moments of the second half. The Oak grabbed a goal back from a deft lob before a stunning effort from distance gave Royal Albert a 3-1 lead again. That lead was cut yet again by a close range Hornchurch goal before a late penalty wrapped up a 4-2 for Royal Albert. Commiserations to Hornchurch Oakmont who have had a terrific run in the competition this year and should be pleased with their efforts.

Royal Albert now head to Aveley on Friday 5th May to take on Southend Sunday League side, Basildon Athletic, in the final next month. We look forward to following Royal Albert on the night and fingers crossed for another county cup success for the league!

CORINTHIAN CUP

It was quarter final day in the Corinthian Cup on Sunday with three of the four quarter final ties featuring in a packed day of action. There was an incredible match in Chadwell Heath where it took a stunning turnaround and ten goals to separate hosts Ultimate Vision and their El Valiente counterparts. Joe Oates and Joe Maskell both scored twice to give Vision a 4-1 lead heading into the last twenty minutes of the game with a huge shock on the cards. But El Valiente summonsed one final big effort and two goals each from Aaron Marston and Kane Malone plus singles from Matthew Ball and Sam Edwards were enough to turn it around and win 6-4.

There was also plenty of talking points in the day’s two other ties as Chingford Athletic caused a big shock to overcome a division deficit in their quarter final against Barking & Dagenham Wanderers in Newbury Park. Michael Mignot got the all important only goal of the game as Chingford won 1-0 to secure their place in the semi finals of the competition next month.

It was almost a day of double delight for the sides from Division One as SL Menfica led against last season’s finalists in this competition, Warren United. But a second half turnaround saw Warren rescue their place in the competition with Harry Agombalor popping up with a pair of goals and Daniel Bell’s effort rounding off an eventual 3-2 victory.

TROPHYLAND CUP

There was a big shock in the Trophyland Cup quarter final on Sunday as Division Three’s E4 Rangers went down to a 2-1 defeat against Division Four side East Ham Inter at Wanstead Flats. Stuart Griffiths got on the scoresheet for E4 but his goal was in vain as Amalraj Kakamanu scored twice for East Ham to confirm their place in the last four of the competition.

PREMIER DIVISION

In the Premier Division, there was just the one fixture due to cup commitments as FC Mexico played host to Brook Athletic in Emerson Park, both sides in the search of key league points to avoid the drop to Division One. Carl Cumberbatch and Joe Ewenson were both on target for the Mexicans, rendering a Kyle Thompson goal for Brook as just a consolation as FC Mexico earned a vital 2-1 win.

DIVISION ONE

In Division One, second placed Ridgeway Rovers saw their promotion hopes take a massive dent as their final league fixture of the campaign ended in defeat at home against Korona Redbridge. A side who have made a habit of 1-0 scorelines this season, Rovers were unfortunately on the receiving end of one this time around as Tomasz Cenin’s only goal of the game was enough to earn Korona the win.

DIVISION TWO

Goals were the order of the day in Division Two with a total of eighteen in just two matches. FC Kulture Klub’s maiden campaign came to a satisfactory end as they took maximum points from their contest against promotion chasing Barking. Daryn Copsey, James Cook and Bradley Marston all netted for Barking but a four goal performance from Adnan Hamdan and a Jay Jones strike earned Klub a 5-3 win that sees them move second.

The day’s other match in the division was a real humdinger as London Fire Brigade and Ferns Seniors peppered each others’ net, combining in a ten goal thriller in Hainault. Liam Coney was a hat-trick hero for his Ferns side with Sean Howe scoring twice too. But a Fire brace for David Moore and further strikes from Enrique Jimenez, John Dillon and Yomi Popoola levelled proceedings at 5-5 and both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.

DIVISION THREE

In Division Three, the race for the title continues to remain well poised as Thames Ironworks Community secured an eleventh league win to move ten points off the lead with four games to play. They were 2-1 winners against Roneo Colts with Billy Scott finding the back of the net for his side. The job remains clear for Thames who still need to win all of their remaining matches to guarantee the silverware.

Alpha have retained their stranglehold on third place this season with a game to go as they saw off the efforts of cup semi finalists, West Essex. Connor Brathwaite and Jack Newbury-Neale scored for West but Alpha responded through a Kai Brown brace and efforts from Roy Edmans and Mikey Ward to confirm a 4-2 victory.

At the other end of the table, the race to avoid the dreaded drop is going to be a close run thing with still plenty of games to go. Dagenham United Reserves have given themselves a good chance to steering clear of that issue as they earned a close fought win at home against Ping City Phoenixes. Goals from Christopher West, Thomas Mason and Jay Simmons were just enough to overcome City in a 3-2 result.

DIVISION FOUR

In Division Four, Newham Athletic have moved to within three wins of the league title as they came through a tough match against fellow challengers Asianos Reserves in a dress rehearsal for their cup final later this month. James Farmer and Leon Anderson were the men on target for Newham who edged a tight contest in a 2-1 scoreline to take home maximum points.

AC Milano Reserves have retained their hopes of a top two finish as they confirmed a big 4-0 win in their local derby away at Thames Ironworks Community Reserves. That victory was Milano’s seventh of the season from sixteen games, moving them up to the top half of the table with six games still to play.

CHARITY CUP

It was quarter final day in the West Essex Sunday Charity Trophy on Sunday with holders, Goresbrook, in action against local rivals Lonsdale once again. After a tight first half, Goresbrook eventually pulled through the tie to win 3-0 and give themselves a shout of retaining the trophy once again. They now head onto the semi finals to face Walthamstow Avenue next month.
