TROPHYLAND CUP

This season’s Trophyland Cup Final line-up was confirmed this Easter Sunday as Wanstead United put their previous semi-final disappointment behind them to record a stunning victory at home to Flyhouse Athletic. Jason Branche, Adam Hunt and David Nott were amongst the scorers as United cruised to a 4-1 victory to book their place at Thurrock next Sunday against Westferry Elite.

PREMIER DIVISION CUP

In the Premier Division Cup, Warren United have secured the last semi-final place as they edged to a 3-2 win against fellow semi-final bound side, Flanders. Max Ward, Daniel Bell and Bobby Wise were all on target to hand their side a crucial victory and prepare themselves for their Corinthian Cup Final next weekend.

The day’s other Premier Division Cup match saw a goal-filled encounter between the competition’s top two sides as Romford Elite took on Repton Park. A 5-2 win for the latter has moved them to within a point of Elite with one game to go as they seek top spot. Gabriel Ogunwomoju scored twice for Elite but a brace for Jesse Spearing and a Jayden Ambrose effort saw them move to victory.

DIVISION THREE CUP

It was semi-final day in the Division Three Cup with two sides looking to become finalists and head to Thurrock in a fortnight to take on FC United of Hornchurch. Goresbrook were the hosts with fellow high-flying Dagenham United Reserves the visitors, following up a 6-6 draw between the sides earlier in the season. In a pulsating match between two quality outfits, it took a Charlie Barrett double and a David Webster effort for the hosts to squeak through in a 3-2 win, booking Goresbrook’s place in the cup final.

DIVISION FOUR CUP

The semi-final action extended through to the Division Four Cup competition as Highams Park Royals, already confirmed finalists in the Spring Cup, took on Thames Ironworks Community who just missed out in that competition. Mitchell-Christopher Edmonds and Ryan Radley were both on target for the Royals but Danny Child’s double and a Reece Lewis effort saw Thames record a historic victory, reaching their first ever cup final as a club.

DIVISION ONE

In Division One, the title race is going to go to the wire for a second successive season after East London Old Boys opened it right up with an impressive 4-1 victory on Sunday against top of the table Ultimate Vision. The Old Boys overcame a Sean Bush goal with two from Jack Stevenson and one apiece from Daniel Bonny and Gaz Dauti to secure the win. With matches still to take place between the top sides, this title race is impossible to call.

Another side who could yet have a big say in that race are Barking & Dagenham Wanderers who, with seven wins and twenty-two points, have an outside shout a top two finish, aided by their comprehensive 10-4 win at the weekend over Waltham Athletic. They warmed up for their upcoming semi-final in terrific fashion with Ashton Lord scoring a hat-trick, braces from Dexter Stuart and Robert Eden plus singles from Harry Monnoyer, Rashid Hatabaro and Alex Leslie.

DIVISION TWO

If you wind back the clock twelve months, the scene at the summit of Division Two would be a reflection on the 2016/17 Division Three title race with both of the sides promoted last year once again proving the favourites to take the top two honours again. One of those sides, Upshire, who head to Aveley on Friday night for their county cup final, warmed up for that match by being 5-0 victors away at Dagenham United, moving them a point behind leaders Wanstead United.

And it the top of the table wasn’t exciting enough, the relegation picture is also becoming very blurry. Masterman’s run of form has seen them close the gap on safety to just three points after they secured a shock 3-0 home win on Sunday against cup finalists, Chingford Athletic. Alessander Cook’s brace and a Nicky Hornsby effort helped them to victory, dragging a fair few sides above them back into the mire.

One of those sides who could still be in trouble are London Fire Brigade who, with plenty of games still to play, were on the road on Sunday with a trip to next weekend’s cup finalists, Westferry Elite. Stephen McMahon and Yomi Popoola were both on target for Fire but a Luke With goal helped Elite to a 2-2 draw on the day and a share of the spoils.

DIVISION FOUR

The Division Four title race is reaching it’s crescendo with Central Colts remaining the bookies favourites to take the crown. Their win on Sunday at home to third-placed East Ham Inter with a 7-1 margin was a huge result with their biggest remaining barrier being a trip to Thames Ironworks Community at some stage in the coming weeks.

The day’s remaining football action took place in Beckton with Custom House Community Reserves playing host to Newham Athletic in a local derby. Newham’s marked improvement in the last few weeks has seen them pull off some stunning wins, continuing their form with a 2-1 victory on Sunday to add to their growing reputation.
