There were two close games in the Corinthian Cup on Sunday, beginning in Barkingside where FC Galaxy came from four goals down to level at 5-5 against Repton Park before winning the shootout 4-3. Will Osmond’s hat-trick and two Archie Hammond goals accounted for Repton’s goals with Mihai Cristea and Mihai Mareniuc scoring two each and Ilie Cojocaru the other for Galaxy.
The other tie in the competition saw an all-Division Two matchup as Benchviews and Colebrook Royals Reserves met in a closely fought contest which ended in a 2-2 draw before Royals held their nerve to win the shootout 4-1 and book their place in the second round.
TROPHYLAND CUP
There were some cupsets in the Trophyland Cup competition, beginning at South Ilford Catholics where Division Five’s Young Royals put in a spirited performance to win the tie 3-0. Amalraj Kakumanu, Naavinan Sritharan and Akash Babu were all on the scoresheet in the win.
Another Division Five side safely through were Newbury Drive who extended their good start to the season with a win over Division Four’s Valence United A with Alfie Mobey scoring twice and Luke Newbury-Neale once in a 3-1 success.
Ping City Phoenixes were another side to beat higher ranked opposition as they held May & Baker EC to a score draw at full-time, 1-1 the final score. A shootout was therefore needed and it was Ping who won that 3-1 to send themselves into the second round.
It was a winning morning for Colebrook Royals A who also head into round two after a cupset win over Division Three’s Turkmenkoy. Joshua Bryant netted for the visitors but a George Marlborough hat-trick and two from Jake Austin meant Royals left 5-1 winners.
Manford Way are safely into the hat for the next round as they record a 4-2 away victory over Alpha in east London. Ollie Scott scored a hat-trick for Manford with Ronan McGoldrisk adding the other to secure the win.
Also through are Division Three high-flyers, Byron Red Star, who continued a very strong start to the season with cup success, Adrian John scoring two and Jimmy Fordham-Reed the other in a 3-1 victory over Romford Town Flyers. Patrick Kizito scored the Town goal off the bench in reply.

FA SUNDAY CUP
In the FA Sunday Cup first round, goals in the first and last minutes of the game from Priory Sports had seen them come from behind to take their clash with Baiteze Squad to penalties at Witham Town, the match ending 2-2, before Baiteze prevailed from spot kicks, 4-3.
Over at Parsloes Park, it was an all-Corinthian first round battle as Brook Athletic locked horns with East London Ballers once again after an opening weekend goal-fest in September. This one ended in a 2-0 win to Ballers after a close contest, last year’s semi-finalists through into round two.
SENIOR DIVISION
Over in Barkingside, Colebrook Royals and Yeni Bogazici were in league action, the latter looking for a reverse of their fortunes from the opening day clash. Obed Sunkwah’s brace of goals helped them do exactly that, 2-1 the final scoreline in Yeni’s favour.
DIVISION ONE
There was an eleven-goal thriller as Woodford Town eventually prevailed in a 6-5 win over Upshire Forest with Luke Dimond netting four, Ben Smith and Mason Naylor with the others.
