CORINTHIAN CUP

There were two cup shocks in the Corinthian Cup at the weekend as two Division One sides saw off Premier Division opposition to make progress in the cup.

Barking were comfortable winners in their clash against Downs as the current Division One leaders came away as 5-1 winners on the day with a goal apiece from Daniel Cook, Jordan Cook, Daryn Copsey, Ben King and Kastriot Vasa to book their place in the last 8.

And in the other David vs Goliath match-up, Barking & Dagenham Wanderers showed their credentials taking Valentines United all the way to extra time before scoring a winner to knock out their opponents and win 2-1. Nick Read and Robert Eden both found the back of the next to secure the victory, cancelling out a Gregory Blake goal for the visitors.

TROPHYLAND CUP

The cup shocks continued into the Trophyland Cup where Division Three side Alpha travelled to higher league opposition in the form of Division Two Romford Galaxy. And it was Alpha who prevailed from a close tie as Ross Chilvers scored the all-important only goal of the game to confirm a 1-0 victory for his side and a place in round 2.

Heathside confirmed a big victory in their opening cup game as they beat fellow Division Four outfit, Epping Forest Falcons, 6-1 on the road. Michael Girling was on target for Falcons but a double from Chris Parkin and singles from Joseph Uhama, Glen Owen, Ryan Dent and Mark Ellis were the match winners on the day.

Ridgeway Rovers continued some positive recent form with a 2-1 win away at Fairlop Rangers on Sunday in Walthamstow.  A goal from each of Jack Payne and Jordon Charles edged the game by a single goal as the boys from Chingford booked a spot in the second round.

PREMIER DIVISION

Lactico maintained their strong start to the season on Sunday as they entertained Ainslie Wood in Hainault and prevailed with maximum points in a 2-1 victory. James Sims-Williams struck for the Wood goal but strikes from Alex Armah and Dejean George proved just enough to secure the points and move to within two points of the leaders.

Liberty Stars put a tough start to the campaign behind them with a terrific 2-1 win of their own as they saw off a strong Warren United side. James Peagram netted for Warren but his goal proved mere consolation as the Beckton side wrapped up victory.

Quality Control moved up to third in the table on Sunday in beating Flanders by the odd goal in five in a 3-2 win. Devonte Forsythe-Young, Johnson Santos and James Piras all netted for their side as they recorded a second league win and keep in sight of the leading pack.

DIVISION ONE

Result of the day in Division One saw the leaders, Korona Redbridge, have their unbeaten start to the season ended in a 2-1 defeat at Emerson Park. The hosts found the net through Jack Irvine and Tony Brookes cancelling out a Dawid Smolarek goal for Korona to move their side up to sixth in the table.

St Augustines secured a first league win of the season as they beat basement side Dagenham United in a 5-1 scoreline. Having secured the win, that lifts the Saints up a place to eighth in the table with games in hand on the sides around them.

DIVISION TWO

E4 Rangers sprung one of the shocks of the day as they ended Westferry Elite’s unbeaten start to the season, cruising to a 3-0 win in Hainault. Ciaran Kelly, Macauley White and Mitchell-Christopher Edmonds all found the target for E4 to move off of the bottom of the table.

A brace from Enrique Jimenez helped his London Fire Brigade side continue their early season revival with a third win in as many games in beating Morfdown Elect 4-2. Yomi Popoola and Samuel Redfern were also on target, cancelling out Morfdown goals from Adam Davis and Lee Archer.

DIVISION THREE

Alliance United secured all of the points in a 3-2 on Sunday as they beat FC United of Hornchurch at Spring Farm to move up to third place in the table. A goal each for Joe Phillips, Nick Hornsby and Mark Frostick were just enough to get the win for the Dagenham side.

Upshire Reserves made up ground on the leaders themselves on Sunday as they saw off a spirited AC Milano Reserves side in a 2-0 win. That result was enough for the Waltham Abbey based outfit to climb to three points off the pace-setters of Wanstead United.

There was a point apiece for both Partizan CMC and Asianos Reserves in the division’s final match as the match ended 2-2, both sides staying in the mid-table region of the division as result. Asianos remain as one of two sides unbeaten in the division thus far.

DIVISION FOUR

In Division Four’s only match of the day, Grey Area came from a goal down against fourth placed Oak Royals to cruise to a 4-1 win. Kane Shelton was on target with Oak’s opener but saw this goal cancelled out by Grey goals from Luke Burton, Perry Robinson and Valentin Svidruc.

WEST ESSEX SUNDAY CHARITY CUP

Four of the Corinthian’s clubs made it through the opening round of the West Essex Sunday Charity Cup and Trophy competitions on Sunday morning.

Game of the day was a seven-goal thriller in Newbury Park where Aldborough Hatch put their Premier Division opponents Repton Park to the sword, however, it was their lofty opponents who came through winning 4-3 to book a quarter-final at home to Romford Elite.

The holders, Romford Elite, were taken to extra time by FC Mexico in their tie before a couple of goals in the extra thirty minutes put paid to Mexico’s campaign for this year with the reigning champions running out 3-1 winners.

In the Trophy competition, there were plenty of goals as Lonsdale saw off the spirited efforts of Division Four side Goresbrook in beating them 5-3. Lonsdale’s reward is a home quarter final where they will meet Alliance United.

Also running out big winners were Park Tavern who added cup victory to a succession of league ones in beating Custom House Community 6-3 in a high-scoring encounter. Tavern now progress to the quarter finals where they take on Sherforce in the last eight.

And rounding off the day’s action was Docklands Albion who followed up last week’s league win with a cup victory as they travelled to Gold and came away 2-0 winners to book a last eight clash with either Romford Galaxy or Esprit.
