CORINTHIAN CUP

There was a big shock in the weekend’s Corinthian Cup football action as Division Two’s high-flying Walthamstow Avenue side hosted last year’s Division One runners-up, Chingford Athletic, in Leyton. In a tightly contested match, the most important moment of the day came from Pierre Weekes as Avenue won 1-0 to move into round two.

There were two big margins of victory in the other fixtures as Warren United, finalists in the competition last season, romped into round two with a stunning 8-2 win on the road away at Kulture Klub. Dan Bell and Alex Yearwood were hat-trick heroes with Sean Green and Harry Agombar goals completing the win.

Also securing a six-goal margin win, SL Menfica made no mistake in their 1st round tie as they took on Division Two’s Frenford. David Hornsby was the man in form on the day with a hat-trick for his side with Tyrell Phillips, Shaun Goddard, Rodney Wilson and Jack Barraclough goals seeing them through in a 7-1 win, overcoming Paul Iseghohi’s effort in reply for Frenford.

TROPHYLAND CUP

The biggest result in the weekend’s Trophyland Cup action saw Division Five’s Total Football cause a shock as they knocked out Division Four’s Romford Athletic Dons from the competition. Jonathan Bluff had a morning to remember, netting six goals to go with Carl Parson’s brace in an 8-3 victory for the hosts.

Also having a profitable morning in front of goal, Monkhams are into the hat for the second round as they saw off Newham Athletic in Loughton. Tom Overton done most of the damage with a hat-trick which was supplemented by single efforts from Samuel Griffin, Matthew Ocons and Cameron Perryer, completing a 6-0 victory.

Completing the action for the day in the competition, a Preliminary Round tie saw Division Five’s Thames Ironworks Community Reserves pitched up against Division Three’s Roneo Colts for a place in round one proper. Colts made no mistake and secured safe passage with a 5-1 victory.

PREMIER DIVISION

In the top flight action, Asianos made it two wins from their opening three league fixtures with a 3-0 home win on Sunday against Barking & Dagenham Wanderers in Walthamstow. Adnan Ali, Troy Hewitt and Lewis Jones were the difference between the clubs to earn Asianos the win, lifting them up to fourth place in the standings.

DIVISION ONE

KLIK have moved four points clear at the top of Division One as they made it five wins from six so far when they made a successful visit to FC Mexico A on Sunday, returning home with all three points in a 4-2 win. Adam Roberts got on the scoresheet for the Mexicans but Sean Thomas’ hat-trick in reply along with a Thomas Carter effort gave KLIK the points.

Colebrook Royals are up to second place in the table and could prove the biggest test for KLIK’s present leadership as the Royals romped to a 7-1 home win on Sunday against West Abbey. Chris Stowe and Joshua Banfield both netted twice with Jeremy Lynch’s broad skillset bringing him a goal too to secure maximum points in Chigwell.

Brook Athletic opened their points account for the new season with an away draw as they visited Korona Redbridge in Barkingside on Sunday. Tomasz Cenin grabbed both of the goals for Korona but Brook scored twice themselves to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

DIVISION TWO

Abridge Village put in a sterling performance on Sunday as they made the trip to Dagenham to take on league leaders, Central Colts, returning home with all three points in a 4-2 victory. Leon Adeyemi scored twice with Cameron Ovel and Jermain Leatherdale goals completing the win which sees them move up to fourth after securing their third league win.

Roose stay fifth in the table but, in fact, level with Walthamstow in the promotion places on goal difference and their promotion hopes were improved as they came from behind to win against Thames Ironworks Community. Charlie Hawes scored for the hosts to help his side over the line to a third league victory of the campaign.

Chasing the Roose coattails just a point further back, Hornchurch Oakmont look to be a serious side once again this year and are still sporting a perfect record in the division, aided on Sunday by a narrow 2-1 win as they made the trip to Chingford Athletic Reserves. Scott Watkins scored for the hosts but Oak scored twice to take the points.

Moving up to ninth in the table, Barking’s improved form of late has helped to steer them out of the relegation places as they picked up a solid 5-2 win on Sunday at home to FC Mexico B at Mayesbrook Park. Aaron King’s treble was important with Justin Lopes and Denzil Mensah goals earning them the win.

Moving up to tenth are Goresbrook who picked up their first league victory of the season over the weekend as they made the trip to Wanstead Albion at the Flats. Bradley Laudat was on the Albion scoresheet but Liam Coney’s return saw him net a hat-trick for Goresbrook, supplemented by Jack Sawyer and Charlie Morris efforts to confirm a 5-1 win.

DIVISION THREE

Barking Riverside continue to show they will be a force to be reckoned with in Division Three this year as they returned to league action with a 5-0 away win on Sunday against Lonsdale in Chadwell Heath. Hamid Ibrahim’s double plus strikes from Ansalem Obi, Oussama Bennani and Stephen Osho were the difference to help Barking keep their perfect start going.

The division’s other tie saw a goal-filled thriller in Theydon Bois where West Essex were the visitors to take on Theydon. A closely fought contest saw Theydon record their first league point of the season as the sides settled for a point apiece in a 3-3 draw. Ola Ogunwamide scored twice and Dylan Scutt once for the West but Mathew Leonard, Robbie Carter and Jack Morgan goals levelled proceedings.

DIVISION FOUR

In Division Four, Bretons Manor took advantage of results around them to move up to second place in the table and level on points with the leaders as they earned themselves a hard fought win away at Ridgeway Rovers Under 21s. Greg Saunders and Luke Gelston were the Manor scorers to see them over the line to a 2-0 win, their fifth of the campaign.

Asianos Reserves are up to fourth place in the table, that outcome made possible by an excellent away win on Sunday as they beat previously second placed side, Inter Ladzio. Asianos were winners in a 5-2 scoreline to earn themselves a third win in six and, with that, a big shift up the table.

Another side who made it three wins from six games was United Amateurs who have been up and down with their form so far but showed what they can do with a 4-2 win away at Upshire Forest Reserves on Sunday. George Oake and Sam Tulley netted for Forest but Jack Chawner’s brace in reply for United plus goals from Jordan Cook and debutant Jayke Welch earned the points.

DIVISION FIVE

Ridgeway Rovers Under 21s Reserves’ excellent start to the season continued over the weekend as they made the trip to Newbury Park to face Singh Sabha Barking in their clash. Rovers’ unbeaten start continues as Regan Marshall scored a hat-trick with Sanchez Bolessa and Alexandra Lynch efforts overcoming Jordan Hamilton’s goal for Barking in an eventual 5-1 scoreline.

Cobra remain second in the table with big matches to come in the weeks ahead as they narrowly saw off the efforts of Custom House Community in Beckton. The only goal of the game arrived through Brandon Hubbard as Cobra ran out 1-0 victors to record a fourth league win of the season.

ESSEX SUNDAY PREMIER CUP

The Essex Sunday Premier Cup second round action came to a conclusion on Sunday with some rearranged ties. Ultimate Vision were up against the holders Palmers and took an early lead through a stunning close range strike. But Palmers levelled and never looked back, eventually prevailing in a 4-1 scoreline to end Vision’s participation.

In the day’s other clash, it was an all-Corinthian match up in Loughton where Elda were up against Flanders with both sides eyeing up a place in round three next month. Despite trailing their opponents by three places in the league, Elda put in sterling performance to win 7-1 and set up a home tie against New Town Rangers in the next round.

WEST ESSEX SUNDAY CHARITY CUP/TROPHY

The West Essex Sunday Charity Cup action got underway on Sunday and El Valiente put in the performance of the day with a huge 9-1 win against Ockendon Manor in their debut match in the competition. They now take on either Belfry or Korona Redbridge in the last eight of the competition.

The holders are also into the hat for the quarter final draw as Repton Park made no mistake in their home tie against St Augustines, running out 4-1 winners against the Saints to proceed on. Their reward for their win is a mouth-watering tie against Romford Elite in the quarter-finals.

That match-up was made possible as Romford Elite, former winners of the competition, took on previous finalists in the shape of Division One’s Valentine United. A well contested battle saw Elite make their one division advantage count, earning their side a 3-1 victory to go through.

In the Trophy competition, last season’s semi-finalists in the competition, Alpha, were back in action with a trip to Dagenham to take on Global Reserves. The game ended locked at 2-2 after extra time meaning the dreaded shootout was needed. Alpha made light work of their spot-kicks, winning the shootout 3-0 to take their place in the last eight against Walthamstow Avenue.
