For our reports on the weekend’s Corinthian & Trophyland Cup finals, head over to our review of those two matches on the website.

PREMIER DIVISION

Ainslie Wood closed the gap on the sides above them in the Premier Division on Sunday with a comfortable 3-1 win over Liberty Stars in Walthamstow. Saviola Kuffour was on target for the Stars but Wood goals from Eric Kelly, James Sims-Williams and Marc Cologne confirmed an important victory for their side as they strive to avoid the drop.

Also victorious at the weekend in this division were Flanders who confirmed a seventh win of the campaign with a 3-0 home victory in East Ham over Quality Control. Goals from each of Lawal Alhada, Matt Hunt and Bradley Ross secured the victory for the hosts.

DIVISION ONE

The Division One title race took an unexpected twist on Sunday as St Augustines completed their season with a comeback win against title chasing Chingford Celtic in Barkingside. Despite trailing 3-1 to Celtic goals from Robert Teppett (2) and Lee Pearce, ten-man Saints won a thriller 4-3 with goals from Billy Anderson, Nathan Hitchman, Thomas Neil and Joe Rowlatt. The race for the title and promotion is now perfectly poised with three sides still in the frame and Celtic needing two wins to snatch the championship.

DIVISION TWO

Docklands Albion have one hand on the Division Two title as they beat E4 Rangers in their last away match of the season, coming away 3-0 winners in Hainault. A goal for each of Jamie Ryan, Garrett Kelly and Azizur Chowdhury proved enough to confirm the victory and set up a title decider next weekend where a point will secure the championship.

DIVISION THREE

Wanstead United maintained their challenge for the league title on Sunday with a 6-1 win at AC Milano Reserves, a result which also guaranteed promotion and a place in Division Two next year. Jason Branche scored a hat-trick for United with Ross Grimes’ brace and a single from Andrew Hooper leaving them needing two wins from three games to overtake Upshire Reserves.

CHARITY CUP

Two Corinthian League sides were successful in booking places in the West Essex Sunday Charity Cup finals this season with semi final victories over the weekend. In the Trophy, Division Three’s Alliance United pulled off a shock result in Dagenham where they overcame Division Two’s Park Tavern in a 4-2 win after extra-time. Alliance will now face Flyhouse Athletic in the final at Aveley FC on 14th May.

And in the Cup, Valentines United overcame their Division One opponents, Emerson Park, by just a single goal in a narrow victory as they won 1-0 to confirm their place at Aveley. They will take on either Eva Hart Rangers or Romford Elite in the final on 7th May.
